A DAD-OF-THREE was left to die by his friends after swallowing a full bottle of a gay sex drug, an inquest has heard.
Builder Nigel Cotter collapsed after he suffered a fatal reaction to the poppers – a drug popular in the clubbing and gay party scene.
The drug – isobutyl nitrate – can also be used to enhance sexual pleasure.
Witnesses told his inquest that the 53-year-old fell unconscious outside a wine bar in Exeter – and was then left alone for almost one and a half hours by his drinking buddies.
Mr Cotter’s devastated family wanted police to investigate the incident believing the man’s pals should be held responsible for the incident.
